Whispers from the Island
a love letter to Jamaica...
The role of the writer is more than creating for creation-sake. It’s to plant a loving intention behind every word you seed. It’s to have radical faith, and firmly believe that your words can heal far beyond what the eyes can see. It’s understanding that your words are medicine. And in this harsh world, we need that now more than ever.
That’s why I’m ecstatic to release my first poetry chapbook Whispers from the Island. It’s a collection of poems, prompts, and stories about my time in Jamaica. It reads like a prayerbook, something for you to return to when you loose sight of your own sacredness. The words in this book are written with so much love, and I hope it replenishes your belief in the loving, invisible arms that are always holding you.
Jamaica holds the magic of Eden, I’m sure of it. Everything in the land oozes abundance, serenity, and love. All the qualities of paradise we’ve been forced to look for outside of ourselves. And yet all this time, the land of milk and honey is right here, only an ocean away.
I’m so grateful for all the ways the land healed me when I needed it the most. And I’m so devastated to watch the people suffer from Hurricane Mellisa. Nature can be so cruel, punishing the wrong people. Because of a small few, our world will continue to rage against us. Until we stop poisoning the earth and profiting from it’s destruction.
But I believe in the power of community—a love that always finds a way to rebuild. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll help me give back to the land that gives so abundantly. Even when it’s suffering. All the proceeds from this book will go toward relief efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
Buy the book, support the fundraiser, and help me give back to the island that gives us everything.
